Prompt tracking playbook
If you only test prompts ad hoc, you will miss trend changes.
A strong playbook uses fixed prompt sets, consistent scheduling, and clear ownership.
1) Organize prompts by job-to-be-done
Group prompts by the customer journey stage:
- Discovery
- Evaluation
- Purchase
- Renewal
Each group should include both brand and non-brand phrasing.
2) Track outcomes weekly
At minimum, measure:
- Mention share by AI model
- Citation share by domain
- Position shifts week-over-week
Record anomalies with notes so your team can connect changes to launches, PR, or content updates.
3) Close the loop with content updates
Data is useful only when it drives action.
Create a weekly review where marketing and product teams choose 1-2 optimizations based on gaps in AI responses.
This keeps the process lightweight and sustainable.
